Let's clear something up first
If the word "hypnotherapy" makes you picture a swinging watch and a person clucking like a chicken, fair enough. That's stage hypnosis. It's entertainment, and it has about as much to do with real hypnotherapy as WWE has to do with seeing your physio.
Real hypnosis is simpler and a lot less mysterious: a focused, relaxed state your brain already knows how to do. You've been in it — driving a familiar road and arriving without remembering the trip, or so deep in a job that the afternoon disappeared. In that state, the mind takes on new ideas more easily. That's it. That's the tool.
You stay in control the whole time. You can't be made to do anything you don't want to do. You'll hear everything, remember everything, and you could stand up and walk out at any point. Mostly what it feels like is the most relaxed you've been in months.
What it's good for
Hypnotherapy works best on the things you already know you want to change but can't seem to make stick:
Anxiety and stress — the racing head, the tight chest, the 3am replays
Anger — going from nought to a hundred faster than you'd like, and the fallout afterwards
Smoking and vaping
Drinking— cutting back or stopping
Eating habits — the evening raids on the pantry you regret by nine o'clock
Sleep, confidence, and the habits you'd rather not list on a website
If part of you wants to change and part of you keeps reaching for the old thing anyway — that's not weakness, that's the normal shape of the problem. It's exactly what this work is built for.
How I work — you leave with a system, not just a session
Most hypnotherapy is something that gets done to you: lie back, listen, hope it took. I don't work that way. You're not here to be a passenger — you're here to train.
Think of it like sport. There's the session with the coach, the training you do during the week, and game day. I give you all three:
1. The deep work. In session, we build the goods: a calm that your body can actually find on demand, the reasons you're doing this (yours, not mine), and a mental rehearsal of you handling the moment that usually beats you — done in a state where it sinks in properly and sticks.
2. The daily training. You leave knowing how to do this yourself — about ten minutes in the evening, no recording of my voice required forever, no incense. This is what makes it stick. Change isn't made in my room; it's made in your week.
3. The switch. A ten-second technique for the moment itself — the craving, the flash of heat, the urge. It's invisible. You can use it at the pub, in traffic, in a meeting. Nobody will know you're doing anything except keeping your cool.
Every session charges the training. The training charges the switch. By the time we're done, the skill is yours — you don't need me anymore. That's the point.
Why see a psychotherapist for this
Anyone can hang out a hypnosis sign after a short course and read you a script. I'm a psychotherapist with a Master's degree and 12 years of counselling experience.
That matters for two reasons. First, the hypnosis is only as good as what's put into it — and knowing how anxiety, anger and habits actually work is the difference between a script and a strategy. Second, if we get in there and find there's something bigger underneath the smoking or the temper, I'm qualified to work with that too, rather than pretending it isn't there. Third, I combine hypnosis with effective counselling approaches rather than separating the two.
Straight answers about results
I won't promise you a miracle, because nobody honest can. Here's the truth: for some people this works fast — one or two sessions and it’s done. For most, it's a genuine edge — the research shows hypnotherapy performing on par with the best behavioural programs, sometimes better when combined with them (as we’ll do), often in less time, and it works better the more you use the training between sessions.
What I can promise: no generic scripts read at you, no fifteen-session program you didn't need, and no pretending. We'll usually know within two or three sessions whether this is working for you. If it isn't, I'll say so and we'll talk about what would.

FAQ
Can everyone be hypnotised? Nearly everyone can reach a useful level of focus and relaxation. Depth varies between people, but you don't need to be a deep trancer for this to work — you need to practise the tools. It's a skill, and skills respond to training.
Will I lose control / say things I don't want to? No. It's not a truth serum and it's not mind control or a power struggle. You're aware the whole time, and nothing goes in that you don't agree with. We talk through all the suggestions before we start.
What if it doesn't work on me? Then you'll know within a couple of sessions, not a couple of months, and I'll tell you straight. You'll still walk away with a relaxation skill most people would pay for on its own.
Is this instead of counselling? It can be either and I usually combine both. Some people come just for the hypnotherapy. Others use it alongside counselling, where it makes the deeper work land harder. We'll figure out what fits.
